Facial recognition check-in works by matching a live photo taken at the venue entrance against a reference photo collected during online registration.

Info Salons uses AWS Rekognition — Amazon's facial recognition engine — to perform the match in under 2 seconds. Attendees who opted in during registration can walk through a designated fast lane without scanning a badge or presenting ID.

The facial recognition check-in process:

Attendee opts in and uploads a photo during online registration
AWS Rekognition validates the photo (checks: single face, adequate lighting, sufficient resolution)
On the event day, attendee stands in front of the camera gate
System matches the live image against the registered photo
Gate opens and badge prints automatically — no QR code or badge scan required

This applies only to attendees who provide explicit consent during registration. A non-biometric alternative (QR code scan) must be available at every station — mandatory under PIPL (China) and GDPR (EU/EEA).

Example: At a VIP conference in Hong Kong, facial recognition reduced average check-in time from 45 seconds per delegate (QR scan + manual verification) to 8 seconds.
